We’re Finalists!

June 20, 2017 By Amy Leave a Comment

BiBs2017

Well this is a rather exciting thing to write… Baking with Granny has been named as a FINALIST in the Brilliance in Blogging Awards 2017 (The BiBs). A few weeks back I asked for you to consider nominating us in The BiBs on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram and of course, you lovely lot did not let us down!

So what are The BiBs?

The BiBs are annual awards that are hosted by Britmums, Britain’s biggest collective of lifestyle bloggers and social influencers. Each year The BiBs showcases the very best in parent lifestyle blogging across a number of different categories, including Fresh Voice, Food, Inspire and Photo. The BiBs ceremony will take place on September 30th in London (on a cruise no less!) following Britmums Live 2017.

Why is it such a big deal to be a finalist?

This blog, this collection of recipes and memories is something Granny and I first talked about for a number of years before it became a reality.
Growing up with Granny (long before she was Granny and was instead just ‘Mum’) I used to see her create and bake all these delicious and inspiring cakes – I would watch in awe at what she could whip together with ease and just assumed it was commonplace that Mums/Grannys could bake in such a way.
Turns out, it’s not all natural talent – there’s a lot of science in baking and a lot of trial and error getting recipes just right. Whenever I went to bake, I’d phone Granny to pick her brain and ask for help. But not everyone has Granny on the end of the phone and upon realising this, the idea of sharing her knowledge and recipes to the world was born through Baking with Granny.

There’s no question that I think Granny’s recipes are award-worthy and I’m sure if you’ve tried any you too would agree. There is nothing overly complex to them. They’re not in-keeping with the latest Instagram foodie trend. But they’re good classic recipes, fool-proof and well established. And not a box-mix in sight! Just lovely old fashioned baking, like your Granny used to bake too.

Need more reason to vote for us?

We’ve both been blown away by the reception the recipes and this little blog have received since it’s launch in late 2015. So much so that earlier this year I took a massive leap and left my full time job of 7 years to turn my focus to growing Baking with Granny. Being named as a Finalist in The BiBs has been a great reassurance that I made the right decision! And none of it would have been possible without you, our lovely readers. Whatever the outcome of The BiBs we’ll still be here baking and sharing recipes but of course having an award would be nice reminder that taking risks and following your heart can often be worth it.
