Top 5 Baking Books for Kids

December 7, 2016 By Amy 1 Comment

It’s December meaning it’s officially acceptable to talk about Christmas! Of course we will have some festive themed recipes coming your way very shortly but why don’t we kick off the Christmas planning with something a little bit different – the Top 5 Baking Book for Kids!

Top 5 Baking Books for Kids

What better gift for your budding little baker than their first recipe book? Growing up, Granny always had an array of books filled with cakes, recipes and delicious looking treats. I could literally spend hours flicking through the pages, picking out what my next birthday cake would be and what I’d like to try and make for myself one day. Now I see The Boys doing the same and it makes me all nostalgic of my childhood and being lucky enough to grow up with a baker mother!

So with a little help from some blogging friends I’ve compiled the Top 5 Baking Books for Kids so you too can set up your budding little baker for success in the big world of baking!

Nadiya’s Bake Me a Story

Nadiya's Bake Me a Story

We all instantly fell in love with this book when we first lay eyes on it. Granny always thought Nadiya was a good choice of winner in 2015’s Great British Bake Off and we were keen to see where her win would take her. This book is just perfection! It features lovely little stories with fantastic recipes alongside them. It’s beautifully illustrated and features some lovely photos of Nadiya and her children. One recipe which looks particularly fantastic is the Star Anise Gingerbread Men, which is accompanied by the story of the gingerbread man.

Gruffalo Crumble

Gruffalo Crumble and Other Recipes

We are massive Gruffalo fans in our household. The books, the films, the endless merchandise…! Our boys can’t get enough, making Gruffalo Crumble a must-have on our letters to Santa. The idea behind the book is very clever, taking inspiration from the Gruffalo stories and all the odd food combinations that the mouse claim to be the Gruffalo’s favourite foods, like scrambled snake and owl ice cream. Best of all they are all really child friendly recipes – just check out the Caterpillar Twists that Tami from Mummy of 2 + 1 and her wee ones made!

BAKED

BAKED

With an amazing collection of truly creative bakes, BAKED is definitely a worthy of a spot in the Top 5 Baking Books for Kids. It focuses right from the basics of baking, like equipment and ingredients, right through to some brilliant and beautiful bakes (eg. Rainbow Unicorn Cupcakes!) that any kid would be happy to try their hands at. It’s wonderfully stylish in design and features some lovely photos of Adelle and her family throughout. BKD (Adelle’s brand behind BAKED) also offer some fantastic Baking Kits and baking parties for kids.

Tickle Fingers

Tickle Fingers is a cookbook that came to me highly recommended by fellow mothers. Where this book varies is that it is aimed purely at Toddlers and getting them hands on in the kitchen. It’s laid out brilliantly into ‘Parent Prep’ sections, followed by ‘All Together Now’ which is a great way to take the stress out of Baking with Kids. As well as sweet recipes, like Apple & Blackberry Crumble and Chocolate Cake Squares, it has lots of savoury recipes like Nann Bread, with a staggering 60 recipes in total! Tickle Fingers definitely gets the thumbs up as a first Baking Book for Kids.

Children’s Book of Baking Cakes

Usborne Children's Book of Baking Cakes

Another great baking book for kids that concentrates on the basics of baking and is full of a variety of recipes, as well as tips and tricks. The instructions in the Children’s Book of Baking Cakes are informative and feature illustrations to keep kids right. With cupcakes, cheesecakes and macaroons included, this book has a recipe for all your kids cake baking needs!

Do you have any favourite’s we’ve missed?
