I never really appreciated an Apple Pie until recent years. It’s something Granny would make an abundance of each year but being a lover of all things chocolate, I usually prefer to opt for desserts more moreish.Read More
Highlander Shortbread
Recently someone asked Granny, “what’s your favourite thing to bake?” and without hesitation, she answered with “Shortbread!” I’ve already shared Granny’s infamous Shortbread recipe but inspired by recent events, I thought it was now time to share another variation of the classic Scottish Shortbread – which incidentally is my favourite kind – Highlander Shortbread!Read More
Victoria Sponge
The famous Victoria Sponge! Is there a more iconic cake? Or one which can divide opinion so fiercely. Not sure what I’m talking about? Let me explain…Read More
Banana Cupcakes
There’s nothing like some over-ripe bananas to get me in the mood for baking. The go-to recipe is of course Banana Loaf but having made countless loafs in recent months (including one still lurking in my freezer!) it was time to put the bananas to another use. Cue the Banana Cupcakes!Read More
Crunchy Peanut Cookies
Hi, hello! There’s been a bit of an unintentional radio silence on here of late which I can only apologise for. I’m never sure how much real life stuff people want on here, so tend to stick to the baking*. So to help ease me back into the kitchen, here’s another classic from Granny’s little blue book; Crunchy Peanut Cookies!Read More
Scottish Daily Mail
If you follow Baking with Granny on Facebook you will have seen the excitement over the fact we recently done a 5-day feature of recipes with the Scottish Daily Mail. Unfortunately, our feature clashed with the arrival of the “Beast from East”, meaning we were unable to get the last few days worth of newspapers locally – a problem which I understand a lot of people had too!Read More
Caramel Slice
If you asked me to make a tray bake to top all of the other tray bakes, Caramel Slice would be the winner. It’s a real classic and always a favourite with all ages, made with all the best things you could have in a sweet treat; biscuit, caramel and chocolate!Read More
Dundee Cake
When it comes to cake, I still feel like I’m on a journey of discovery. Cakes were always what Granny made when I was growing up and as such, I never really took to them. Too much of a good thing! But since growing up and moving away from home, I have rediscovered cake in all it’s glory. The latest cake to join my newly discovered all-time favourites is Dundee Cake.Read More
Custard Creams
There’s two treats that I remember my own Granny baking. The first one is of course her infamous Coconut Ice. And the second is Custard Creams. Even Granny raves about this recipe as being the best custard creams recipe she’s ever used. High praise indeed!Read More
Perkins
One of my most favourite things to have happened since starting Baking with Granny is people sharing what they used to bake with their own Granny. It was never the initial expectation behind sharing Granny’s recipes here but it came naturally with the concept. Some of the recipes people mention are already here (Shortbread and Fly Cemetery), some are in the works and others I’m not always familiar with. Perkins biscuits was one that was requested on Facebook – one I hadn’t heard of before but of course, Granny had a recipe stashed away.Read More
