Granny’s Lemon Drizzle Cake

August 7, 2017 By Amy 3 Comments

Lemon Drizzle

This past week has been a crazy one. My hands are literally blistered from baking and my body is now running on empty. What I need right about now is a decent cup of tea and a deliciousness pick-me-up, like a slice of Granny’s Lemon Drizzle cake!Read More

Golden Syrup Cake

Golden Syrup Cake

I can still clearly remember my first encounter with Golden Syrup. I’d seen the infamous tin in Granny’s baking cupboard but it wasn’t until we first tried baking what would become my favourite cookie recipe that I really tasted this gold elixir. It’s a staple in British baking and most definitely the star ingredient of this Golden Syrup Cake.

Rock Buns

Rock Buns

It was actually one of our lovely Twitter followers who’d requested this recipe and of course, Granny had her go-to Rock Bun recipe right on cue! I’m pretty sure prior to this, the last time I made Rock Buns was in my High School Home Economics class and I’m pretty sure they were more rock than they were bun.

Spiced Chai and Caramel Cake

Chai Caramel Cake

We were sent the ingredients for this recipe by Dr. Oetker. We were not compensated in any other way. All opinions are our own.

Fathers Day is just around the corner and whose Dad doesn’t enjoy a good cake? The lovely folk at Dr. Oetker recently got in touch to ask if we’d like to try out one of their recipes for Fathers Day and this Chai Caramel Cake was just too tempting to resist – perfect for making Dad’s day!

Cherry Bundt Cake

I bought a bundt tin a few months back and couldn’t wait for it to arrive so I could get stuck in, baking beautiful cakes to share on here. But for whatever reason I’ve only really just gotten around to it with this beautiful Cherry Bundt Cake. That’s not to say I haven’t been pinning lots of inspirations over on my Pinterest!

Almond Slice

Almond Slice

A sure sign of a recipe being a winner is when half of it is gone before I even manage to get photos! I knew the other half would like Almond Slice, given his love for Mr Kipling Bakewell Slices I hadn’t anticipated making two batches of them within a few days.

Banana Loaf

Banana Loaf

Whenever the kids ask me, “what’s your favourite fruit, Mummy?” the answer will always be, bananas! I’ve always been a fan of bananas, in fact anything banana – banana sweeties, banana puddings, banana hair products; in fact I currently have a banana shower gel stood in my shower. So it’s really no surprise that one of my favourite bakes from Granny is her Banana Loaf.Read More

Cakes of Birthdays Past

Cakes of Birthdays Past

There’s a birthday approaching in the Baking with Granny house. And it’s a big one! Granny has recently retired from making cakes but as it’s John’s 5th birthday next week she has decided to put her pinny on once more and whip up another birthday cake that will no doubt get heads turning. To mark the occasion, lets take a wee look back at all the birthday cakes she’s already done for the The Boys over the past 5 years!

Black Bun

Black Bun

Happy Hogmany, folks!

For those of you outwith Scotland, Hogmanay is our version of New Years. The origins of the term ‘Hogmanay’ is at best uncertain but it isn’t without it’s traditions. Torch-light processions, singing Auld Lang Syne, street parties and of course first-footing; the custom of being the first visitor in a home after the bells at midnight. And for good luck your first-footer should be a tall, dark, handsome stranger, carrying some sort of gift. So if you’re planning on doing some first-footing yourself then this Black Bun is just the gift you need.Read More
