The famous Victoria Sponge! Is there a more iconic cake? Or one which can divide opinion so fiercely. Not sure what I’m talking about? Let me explain…Read More
Scottish Daily Mail
If you follow Baking with Granny on Facebook you will have seen the excitement over the fact we recently done a 5-day feature of recipes with the Scottish Daily Mail. Unfortunately, our feature clashed with the arrival of the “Beast from East”, meaning we were unable to get the last few days worth of newspapers locally – a problem which I understand a lot of people had too!Read More
Dundee Cake
When it comes to cake, I still feel like I’m on a journey of discovery. Cakes were always what Granny made when I was growing up and as such, I never really took to them. Too much of a good thing! But since growing up and moving away from home, I have rediscovered cake in all it’s glory. The latest cake to join my newly discovered all-time favourites is Dundee Cake.Read More
Banana Nutella Loaf
Confession time… I’m not a big fan of Nutella. I know, shock-horror – a major chocoholic like myself, it doesn’t make sense. Don’t get me wrong, I will eat it when it’s part of recipe but I’m not a eating-it-from-the-jar kind of girl. That being said, I can appreciate the combo of Nutella and bananas, especially since my youngest, David, has recently taken a loving to “Butella”. Granny had mentioned this combo of Nutella in Banana Loaf and it seemed like the perfect treat for David.Read More

Angel Cake
Growing up with Granny baking at home, people are always shocked to find out that as kids, myself and my sisters weren’t big cake fans. We’d always have beautiful birthday cakes created by Granny but we would never have much interest in actually eating them. However there’s one person who has always been loyal to eating Granny’s cakes – that is Papa. Perhaps that is why the tale of his 40th Birthday Angel Cake is all the more facetious.
Gingerbread

I don’t want to mention the ‘C‘ word since we’re still only in September but there’s no denying the nights are drawing in. The temperature & weather in Edinburgh has still been somewhat unpredictable but I know I’m already craving some cosier comforts that come with Autumn. And what’s better than a door-stop sized slice of Gingerbread?

This past week has been a crazy one. My hands are literally blistered from baking and my body is now running on empty. What I need right about now is a decent cup of tea and a delicious pick-me-up, like a slice of Granny’s Lemon Drizzle cake!
Read MoreGolden Syrup Cake

I can still clearly remember my first encounter with Golden Syrup. I’d seen the infamous tin in Granny’s baking cupboard but it wasn’t until we first tried baking what would become my favourite cookie recipe that I really tasted this gold elixir. It’s a staple in British baking and most definitely the star ingredient of this Golden Syrup Cake.
Read MoreRock Buns

It was actually one of our lovely Twitter followers who’d requested this recipe and of course, Granny had her go-to Rock Bun recipe right on cue! I’m pretty sure prior to this, the last time I made Rock Buns was in my High School Home Economics class and I’m pretty sure they were more rock than they were bun.
